Ohio State, Big Ten Will Not Sniff The Championship Game
Ohio State, arguably the best team in the Big Ten, got destroyed by USC 35-3 on the big stage.
Ohio State, without star running back Beanie Wells, didn’t get anything going on offense. They did lead 3-0 when they kicked a field goal in the first quarter, but that was the only time they held the lead. When USC scored their first touchdown from a 35-yard pass from Sanchez to fullback Stanley Havili, they never looked back as Sanchez finished with 4 touchdown passes, 172 yards, and 1 interception.
It would not have mattered in Beanie Wells played in this game, USC still would have won. Ohio State may have scored a touchdown or two, but USC explosive offense couldn’t be stopped.
This is the third time in three years that Ohio State has been embarrased on the national stage. From the two national championship games with Florida and LSU to yesterday’s game with USC, Ohio State has shown that they can’t hang with the big boys.
Since Ohio State is the Big Ten’s best team, it’s almost certain that neither Ohio State or any other Big Ten team will play in the championship game this year. Even if Ohio State won the rest of their games 40-0, there is no way that the powers that be would allow Ohio State to go back to the championship game and get pounded.
It’s refreshing that we’ll have two new teams in the championship game this year. The only question is, who will be playing against USC in that game?
